About TimestampDecode
What this is
Three timestamp tools that run in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded.
| Tool | Rule it applies | Where it is ambiguous |
|---|---|---|
| Decode (home page) | Up to 10 digits is seconds; longer is milliseconds. Shows UTC, local time and both epoch units. | Microsecond and nanosecond values are read as milliseconds and land in the wrong year. |
| Epoch unit detector | Chooses seconds, milliseconds, microseconds or nanoseconds by magnitude and names the choice. | A millisecond stamp from before March 1973 is read as seconds. |
| ISO-8601 to epoch | An explicit offset is absolute; a date alone is UTC; a time with no offset shows both UTC and local readings. | None by design: it refuses to guess. Impossible dates are errors. |
"Local time" always means the time zone of the browser you are using, not the zone of the system that produced the timestamp.
